The M42 is close, whichever village you start from
Junction 4 of the M42, near Hockley Heath, is a few minutes from Henley and from most of the villages around it. From there it is north to Junction 1 and the A38 into Edgbaston — around thirty-three minutes in normal traffic, the shortest drive of any of Ms Jiang’s Warwickshire towns, and the route to use if you are driving.
Which makes asking for a lift an ordinary plan, not a big one
Because the drive is this short, asking a son, daughter or neighbour for a lift is not a large favour — there and back is little more than an hour of someone’s afternoon. If nobody can spare that, a taxi door to door is a straightforward alternative and worth comparing against the train below.
The Shakespeare Line, if you’d still rather take a train
Henley-in-Arden’s station is small and unstaffed, on the same Shakespeare Line as Stratford, with an hourly service each way to Birmingham Snow Hill in around thirty-five minutes. Because Henley is so much closer to Birmingham than Stratford, the same line that is a poor recommendation there is a reasonable one here — though it still lands at Snow Hill, on the far side of the city centre from George Road, so plan a short taxi for the last stretch rather than assuming a direct walk.
The surrounding villages, and the drive home afterwards
Tanworth-in-Arden and Ullenhall sit south-west of Henley, a short run to the A3400 or the M42. Wootton Wawen is closer still, almost an extension of the town. Lapworth and Rowington lie towards Hockley Heath and Junction 4 itself, so for patients there the motorway is closer than Henley high street is.
You will have dilating drops at the first appointment and should not drive home afterwards. From Henley and its villages that is a manageable ask rather than a logistical problem: the drive in is short enough that a friend or family member collecting you afterwards, or dropping you off and coming back later, is a realistic plan rather than a half-day commitment.

Common questions
What happens at the first consultation?
The first appointment takes about 45 minutes and is with Ms Jiang herself, not a delegate.
- A discussion of your symptoms, your general health and what you want from your vision
- A full examination, including measurements of the eye and its focusing power
- Dilating drops, which blur your vision for a few hours
- A frank conversation about the options, including doing nothing
- A written summary sent to you and, with your consent, to your GP
Because of the dilating drops, you should not plan to drive yourself home.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
Not for a self-funded consultation — you can book directly. If you are claiming on private medical insurance, most insurers require a GP or optometrist referral before they will authorise the appointment, so check with your insurer first.
Do you accept private medical insurance?
Note that refractive lens exchange carried out to reduce dependence on glasses is generally not covered by insurance, as it is considered elective. Cataract surgery usually is.
Can I come for a second opinion?
Yes, and you are welcome to. Bring any measurements, scans or correspondence you already have. Ms Jiang is happy to review a plan made elsewhere and tell you whether she agrees with it.
